Terms of entry

One in Million is a set of finite collections. These terms describe what an entry is, what it is not, and what each side is responsible for.

What One in Million is

One in Million is a paid digital competition and collection. It runs five collections — People, Achievements, Creations, Pets and Moments — and each has its own fixed capacity of 1,000,000 entries and its own numbering. Each accepted entry receives one permanent sequential number within its collection, from #000001 to #1000000. The same number therefore exists once in every collection and identifies a different entry in each. Participants submit an entry, the community votes, and entries are ranked within their own collection only.

An entry is a place in a competition and a permanent number. It is not a physical good, a security, an investment, a token, or a promise of any financial return.

Eligibility

You must be able to form a binding agreement in your jurisdiction, and you must be legally permitted to participate in a paid-entry competition where you live.

One in Million is not available where participation in a paid-entry competition of this kind is restricted or unlawful. It is your responsibility to check the position where you live before entering.

Accounts

Participation requires an account with a verified email address and a handle. Your handle is the only public identifier of you on the site. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your credentials secure.

How many entries you may hold

There is no limit. You may enter as many times as you like, in one collection or across several. Each entry is paid for separately and receives its own permanent number.

Creating additional accounts to evade a suspension, to vote on your own entries, or otherwise to manipulate ranking remains a breach of these terms and may result in suspension. What is not permitted is influencing the outcome, not entering more than once.

Price and payment

The entry price is $1 USD. The amount is determined by the server; nothing your browser sends can change what constitutes a valid payment.

Payments are processed by Razorpay. Card details are entered on Razorpay’s own payment surface and never reach our servers — we hold only the reference, the amount, the currency and the status.

Your number is issued only after our server has confirmed the payment with Razorpay directly. A message from your browser saying a payment succeeded is never enough on its own.

What payment buys

Payment buys participation: a confirmed entry and a permanent number.

Payment does not buy publication. Every submission is reviewed before it appears publicly, and a submission that breaches the submission guidelines may be refused or removed. Paying does not place One in Million under an obligation to display your entry.

Your number

Numbers are issued strictly in sequence within the collection you entered, server-side, only after a payment is confirmed. A number is never chosen by the participant, never allocated by your browser, and never reissued or changed.

Numbering is gapless in each collection: numbers are issued in an unbroken sequence, and each collection keeps its own. If an entry is later removed, its number is retired with it and is not returned to circulation.

What you submit

One image per entry, in JPEG, PNG or WebP format, up to 50 MB, and at least 400 pixels on each side, together with a title naming what the entry is of. There is no limit on how many entries an account may hold; each is paid for separately and receives its own number. Full detail is in the submission guidelines, which form part of these terms.

Rights you must hold

By submitting, you represent and warrant that you own the image, or you hold all rights and permissions necessary to submit it — including from any identifiable person in it, and from any rights holder in anything depicted.

You keep ownership of your image. You grant One in Million a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, resize and publicly display it for the purpose of operating and promoting the competition. This licence exists so the site can show your entry; it does not transfer ownership and does not permit sale of your work as a standalone product.

AI-generated and AI-assisted images

AI-generated and AI-assisted images are permitted. They are judged on the same terms as any other entry.

You must disclose at submission when an image is generated or materially assisted by AI, and you must still hold the rights necessary to submit it. Failing to disclose is a breach of these terms.

Prohibited content

Content that is unlawful, infringing, sexually exploitative, depicts or promotes serious violence, harasses or impersonates a person, or contains malicious data, is prohibited. The submission guidelines set this out in full.

Moderation and publication

Every entry begins as pending review and is visible only to its creator. It becomes public only when approved. Approval is a judgement, and One in Million may decline to publish, or later remove, any entry that breaches these terms.

Moderation decisions are recorded internally in an append-only log.

Removal

If an entry is removed, it stops being publicly visible. Where removal follows your breach of these terms — including submitting an image you had no right to submit — no refund is given. See the refund policy and the copyright policy.

A removed entry keeps its number. Numbers are never reissued, so the number leaves the sequence permanently whether or not the entry remains visible, and whether or not any payment is refunded.

Ranking, voting and abuse

Ranking is derived from votes and is scoped to a single collection — an entry is never ranked against one in a different collection. Voting requires an account, one active vote per account per entry, and you cannot vote on your own entry. You may change or withdraw your vote.

No position is guaranteed. Nothing about paying to enter entitles you to any rank, visibility, or number of votes. Attempting to manipulate voting — through additional accounts, automation, or paid inducement — is a breach of these terms and may result in removal and suspension.

Suspension

Accounts may be suspended for breach of these terms, fraudulent payment activity, or manipulation of the competition. Where suspension follows your own breach, no refund is given.

Payment disputes

If you believe a payment is wrong, contact us before raising a dispute with your bank or card issuer. Raising a chargeback for an entry you received may result in the entry being removed and the account suspended.

Availability

One in Million is provided as-is and as-available. It is a small service, and it may be interrupted for maintenance or by faults outside our control. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.

Our intellectual property

The One in Million name, the site design, the numbering presentation and the software are ours. Your entry remains yours; nothing in these terms grants you rights in the platform itself.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of your use of One in Million is limited to the amount you paid to enter. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost profits, goodwill, or anticipated advantage from any ranking.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Consumers keep their statutory rights.

Changes

These terms may change. Material changes affecting entries already purchased will be published on this page with an updated date. The permanence of an issued number will not be altered retroactively.
